Abstract
In August 1960, 334 households in Wimi-Ri, Mam won- Myun, Cheju_Do were suveyed. The population of this area included 815 males and 951 females, total of 1,766 people.
From this total population 220 males, and 156 female, a total of 356 people whose ages ranged from 1 to 83 years were examined, and 22.2% or 79, were positive for Brugia mallayi.
24.4% of the females and 20.5% of the males were infected. Teh higher incidence in females was particularly evident in these under 10 years of age where 30.8% of the females and only 9.8% of the male were infected.
Quantitative blood samples taken from two infected cases demonstrated the nocturnal periodicity of B. malayi.
Adult and larval forms of Culex pipiens, Aedes togoi and Aedes albopictus were collected and among the three types oever 90% were Adeds togoi. Among 464 Aedes togoi collected two infective larvae and one sausage-form larva was found. From these studies it is assumed that Aedes togoi may be the vector of B.malayi in this area on Cheju-Do
